AHEC Scholars Program

The AHEC Scholars Program is an exciting multidisciplinary program that gives health professions students a unique opportunity to practice hands-on training, experience providing care in a rural/underserved environment, collaborate with fellow health professions students in the region, build resumes and develop professional contacts.

Students will make lasting connections with peers studying various health professions and learn how to function as an interdisciplinary team.

The program consists of 80 hours of classroom/online instruction and 40 hours of hands-on clinical training over a two-year period.  Instructional materials consist of self-paced study, some small group-facilitated discussions, and in-person workshops with local health professions faculty.

Six core topic areas are covered in the AHEC Scholars Program curriculum:

  • Interprofessional Education
  • Behavioral Health Integration
  • Social Determinants of Health
  • Cultural Competency
  • Practice Transformation
  • Current and Emerging Health Issues
