Blue Ridge AHEC is providing housing for you in these lovely older homes ten minutes from Floyd Medical Center, Harbin Clinic, and Redmond Medical Center in Rome. The housing fee is $75.00 per week.  Please note some school programs have provided funding support for their students.

  • Aventine Dorms: (4) bedroom, (9) bed, (3) bath, same gender unit (Washer/Dryer unit in handicapped bathroom)
  • Chieftan's Chase Apartment: (2) bedroom, (2) bed, (1) bath, same gender unit
  • Desoto Cottage: (2) bedroom, (4) bed, (1) bath, same gender unit

What to Bring

Each house is fully furnished, but if you would like to bring your own bed linen for a twin size bed, please do. Students must supply all personal items including personal hygiene materials, towels, toilet paper, food, etc. Basic kitchen utensils and dishes are supplied. Meals are not provided. A television/VCR is located in the living room of each house and the garage apartment. A DVD player is available in the main house living room. You are welcomed to bring your own TV with antennae for your room. Cell phones or Phone cards must be used for long distance calls. Kitchens and bathrooms will be shared by the other student(s) in the house/apartment. Only same sex students will be in each bedroom, unless a married couple is completing a clerkship/clinical rotation together.

Keys

If you have picked up your keys over the weekend you must check in with Blue Ridge AHEC at 8:30 AM the following business day prior to beginning your rotation if you will be going to Floyd Medical Center. You will complete the hospital orientation and sign the housing agreement. At the end of your rotation, please return the key to the Blue Ridge AHEC office before noon on the day you depart. Office hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. A $25 fee will be charged for lost keys.

Mail and Email

Mail may be sent to Blue Ridge AHEC, 2007 North Broad Street NE, Rome, GA 30161-5309. Student computers with internet connections are available. You may pull up your e-mail and send messages from the computers for students at the Blue Ridge AHEC office (2007 North Broad Street house) or at the Floyd Medical Center library. The key to the Floyd Medical Center library can be picked up after hours at the switchboard. Searches may be done from the computers, as well. If you need any assistance, the Blue Ridge AHEC Staff will assist you.

Telephones

Dial 9 to call a local number. Be sure to bring your cell phones for long distance use. Or use a long distance phone card. You are responsible for all long distance calls not charged to your card.

Parking

Park in the parking lot behind 2005 North Broad Street (small white house). Staff parking is located behind 2007 North Broad Street. Staff sometimes do come in at odd hours and on the weekend. DO NOT park in the parking lot at Robbie Ann’s Coiffures (2003 North Broad Street). Your vehicle will be towed if you park there.

Washer & Dryer

A free washer and dryer are available in the main house/office (2007 North Broad Street). A free washer and dryer are also located at 2005 North Broad Street for occupants to use. Please bring your own supplies.

Maintenance Problems

During regular office hours, please contact the Blue Ridge AHEC office staff and allow us to contact the maintenance person.

Emergencies

Rome is a 911 area for fire, police and ambulance. Please use the phone book for information for any other non-emergency assistance.

Cleaning

Students are required to keep apartments clean during residence and upon departure. Please clean up after yourself in the bathrooms and kitchen areas. A housekeeper comes monthly for heavy cleaning only. Please be careful of spills. If an apartment is left in an unsatisfactory manner, a cleaning/replacement fee will be charged. Please do not take any items that belong to the apartment. Theft will result in a fine. When you leave each day and at the end of your stay, please turn off all lights and put the air conditioner on "power save".

Restrictions and Regulations

No smoking is allowed in the apartments. No pets or family members are allowed. The apartments are a drug-free environment and your signature on the agreement ensures your acknowledgement and agreement to this restriction.

Please use common courtesy. Do not have loud conversations or music in the house/apartment or in the parking lot. Make sure that you do not inconvenience your roommates, as well. Be friendly and considerate of your roommates and neighbors. Get to know “roommates in the Blue Ridge AHEC housing. Find things to do together. Look through the newspapers on the main house/office kitchen table or desk. Negative complaints from the neighbors could result in our future inability to provide you with student housing.

Please print, sign, and fax Housing Agreement to Paula Stover at 706-378-3113.  He will contact you about how to obtain your key.
