Elementary Health Careers Program: “The Great Hospital Adventure"

Blue Ridge AHEC is pleased to provide a proven program for young learners to explore health careers and develop healthy behaviors and lifestyles.

Children and Teachers love this upbeat and informative program featuring eight loveable puppets known as the Health Careers Puppet Bunch. Each puppet represents a different health career and are matched with real health care professionals who look like them and share the same career.

This multimedia program lasts approximately 30-45 minutes and each child will receive related activity materials.

Medical Explorers Program

Floyd Medical Center has chartered with the Boy Scouts of America to establish a Medical Explorers Program. This opportunity is available for young people between the ages of 14 (and finished with 8th grade) and 20 who are interested in learning more about various medical careers. Exploring can be an informative and fun way to help students prepare for their future. Students from Floyd, Chattooga, and Polk are invited to apply!

A “first-nighter” was held at the Floyd Medical Center Training Center at Mount Berry Square Mall in Rome on August 19th. The second meeting was held September 16th at Floyd Medical Center, with other meetings on the 4th Tuesday of every month. If you should decide to sign up, you need to bring a $20 fee, which will cover your annual enrollment fee and uniform costs. Your shirt will be provided, but plan to wear khaki pants. For a list of upcoming meetings see our Medical Explorers Meeting Calendar.

If you are interested in the Exploring program, please contact Amy Astin at Floyd Medical Center at 706/802-2106, or you may contact tjones@blueridgeahec. For more information on Exploring, go to the website www.learning-for-life.org.
